“A rich vein of Cornish life”
Multi Story is a project devised by Jude Munden and Penny MacBeth. It is a travelling installation of illuminated box portrait dioramas which pairs twelve Cornwall based artists with twelve local people born outside the UK who now make their home in Cornwall. Through a shared process, forging new relationships between artists and collaborators, each box has been devised to celebrate that person’s unique identity, collectively illustrating the diversity which enriches the community and demands to be more widely celebrated in a world where people are not always respected, listened to or understood.
Through both the artists and collaborators the installations find their roots in 17 different countries. The work has been shown at four well-attended exhibitions across Cornwall and is continuing to be exhibited in different spaces. The process of making the pieces was documented by photographer Rafi Turk, whose photos capture the warmth of the exchanges between artists and collaborators.
