The WOMAD Foundation’s project Kora: Music, Tradition and Craft is almost underway. Aliou Gassama flew into Gatwick from Senegal on Friday and is spending a few days visiting his cousin, Seckou Keita, before starting work later this week. First of all Aliou and Adam will be rehearsing for a few days before starting the schools workshops on 1st July. They’ll be travelling around Wiltshire, Poole, South Gloucestershire and Somerset for workshops in primary and secondary schools and performances.

Public performances at the Merlin Theatre, Frome, The Pound Arts Centre, Corsham andBridgwater Arts Centre will combine music with stories about craft of kora making. Tickets are on sale through each venue’s box office.
